I’m switching gears in my health and fitness journey. Over the past 3 months, I have done a combination of Master’s Hammer and Chisel (which is a pretty hard core strength training program) and half marathon training. I realized last month that I signed up for a half marathon that will be on October 23rd, but I haven’t done any training. So I had to get my butt in gear.
I’ve been working out 5-6 days a week over the summer, but I haven’t done any running. Zero. I started running again in late August when my daughter started running cross country again. I always look forward to cross country because not only is it fun for her, but it get me active during her practices as well. The kids actually get mad at me and call me out when I stand around socializing rather than running with them.
Along with the cross country practices, I’ve started adding distance runs in on the weekend. I started with 8 miles and I add a mile every weekend. Last week I finished The Master’s Hammer and Chisel. I needed this strength training to help build muscle for my running.
Now that I am a little over 2 weeks away from my half marathon and the training is getting a little more intense I decided I needed to cut back on strength training a little bit and focus a little more on recovery and stretching.
Luckily I have access to a new program on Beachbody On Demand called 3 Week Yoga Retreat. This is obviously a 3-week yoga program that starts with the fundamentals and get more advanced each week. The program combines yoga, breathing techniques and a little bit of meditation. All things my mind and body drastically needs.
I just completed day 4 this morning which was Flow. It felt oh so yummy. I can’t wait to share more with you all about this journey. This particular journey will be a short one, but much needed.
