How to Use a Fake Plant in Home Décor

If you are one of those people who just excel at gardening, are a plant lover who has a green thumb, or just plain consider yourself to be a gardenista, then there is a very good chance that you love having real plants to decorate your home.  However, if you are not one of these types of people and are a notorious plant killer, you may want to use fake plants to help boost your home décor. With that being said, here are some of the top tips when it comes to trying to use fake plants instead of real ones but having them look as though they are actually real.

Only Use High-Quality Fake Plants

When it comes to fake plants that don’t look fake, you are going to need to go with the higher quality materials.  In fact, this is going to be the only way to convince anybody that the fake plants may actually be real ones.  What this means, is that you will need to spend a few more dollars, as the higher quality materials. In your fake plants are going to cost a little bit more.  But when you keep in mind that the plant will last for a much longer amount of time than some of the cheaper options, it all ends up costing about the same in the long run.

Some of the parts of the plant you are going to want to look for to make sure that they look real will include the stems and/or the trunk.  Also, having imperfect leaves is going to also be a big thing. Finally, having the plant be in a nice pot (which can also be upgraded later on), and something that resembles dirt, are also going to be very useful for making fake plants look real.

Not All Plants Will Look Good as Fakes

When it comes to fake plants, you should really try to avoid anything that comes with fake flowers on it.  While there are going to be some that do look good, most of them are not going to. On top of that, trying to explain why a certain plant has been in bloom for the last 18 months isn’t really going to go over so well.  What this means is that the fake flowers on your fake plants are going to let everybody know that you are using fake plants, but the whole idea here is going to be trying to convince everyone that they are actually real.  So just say no to fake flowers.

Make Your Fake Look Real

If you want people to think that your fake plant is real, you should pretend that it is a real plant.  What this means, is that you will need to put it into a new container, making sure that you use real dirt to ‘plant’ it.  If you want, you can even add a self-watering device into the pot as well to really make it look as though it is real.

  1. Fake plants have come such a long way. My cats tend to destroy live plants and so I have started switching out my plants with artificial plants.
