We all want to be as healthy as we can possibly be so we can live as long and happy a life as our genes allow, but some of us don’t really know what a truly healthy life looks like. Luckily, there are lots of very healthy people out there who we can learn from. By incorporating their health habits into our own lives, we too can become the healthiest versions of ourselves, but what exactly are the positive habits that many healthy people share?

They sleep well

Healthy people tend to prioritize their sleep, which means they go to bed at roughly the same time each night and wake up the same time each morning. They get between 7 and 9 hours of shut-eye depending on their body’s needs and they maintain a strong sleep hygiene routine.

Common aspects of sleep hygiene include turning off the TV at least an hour before bed, using the bedroom for sleep and sex only, and using herbal sleep aids if dropping off is more difficult than it should be.

They’re proactive

As soon as healthy people are worried about their health, perhaps because they have ringing in their ears or they find a lump on their body, they make an appointment and see a medical professional – they don’t put it off and hope that it goes away. Not only that but they take preventative medicines, book regular physical exams, and know the frequency of hearing tests and dental appointments, and they never miss. If you want to be healthy, you need to preempt any issues you may be having or could have in the future and truly healthy people know this

They stay active

There’s no getting around the fact that, if you want to be healthy, you need to exercise. Exercise is vital for maintaining a healthy weight and keeping your organs in good shape. Even if you just go on a 30-minute walk each day, it will do you the world of good.

They eat healthy

Diet and exercise go hand in hand. A healthy diet that’s made up of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, pulses, and whole grains is the best way to avoid illnesses like diabetes and heart disease, maintain a healthy weight, and feel great. Healthy people know this and they follow through – so should you. Sure have that cake for a treat, but make sure it is a treat and not a daily part of your diet.

They know how to relax

Stress is a big killer. Not only can it be mentally distressing, but it can have a very real effect on your physical health too. That’s why healthy people take the time to switch off and relax. Whether by meditating, practicing yoga, or reading a good book, healthy people really know how to unwind. They also do whatever they can to carve out time for it.

They hang out

Healthy people know that having strong relationships with friends, family, and people in the community is a great way to feel a sense of belonging and boost mental health, so they always make time to hang out.
