Warm winter days are rare in East Tennessee (well they used to be rare). When we have these warm days we take advantage of the weather by getting outdoors. On this particular 70 degree sunny day, we decided to take a hike on Sharp’s Ridge.
I’ve lived in Knoxville my entire life (with the exception of the 6 months I lived in Florida) and I’ve never hiked on Sharp’s Ridge. Unfortunately, Sharp’s Ridge has a bit of a bad reputation. It’s been known for activities such as prostitution and drug deals. Over the past few years, the community has taken steps to improve the area since it’s known for its fantastic views of Downtown Knoxville.
We took the kids up to hike one of the trails that starts just across the street from the picnic area. We only hiked about one mile of the trail we were on before we had to turn back. Just in the less than mile of trail, we hiked we got to see amazing views of Downtown Knoxville. Sharp’s Ridge has trails that are fantastic for trail running and mountain biking. We saw quite a few bikers while we were hiking.
Sharp’s Ridge is a great place to go for a short hike that is in the heart of Knoxville. And despite it’s bad reputation we felt safe while we were up there. Now that we know about the trails I look forward to taking a break from work to do a little more hiking, especially since it’s less than 10 minutes from our office.
