After you rub your hands together, bring your hands to your face and breath in the oil before you start your meditation.

Some Buddhists believe that sandalwood can transform your desires and keep you more alert during meditation. Sandalwood is a very calming scent. It helps create a sense of inner peace and allows you to focus on your breath easily. Sandalwood to good to use for those who might have a busy mind during meditation. 

Clary Sage

Are you feeling negative energy and emotions? Clary sage might be the right essential oil for you. It has an earthy scent with herbal and fruity notes to it. Clary sage has been known to relieve stress and clear negative energy. It has also been used in some cultures as an antidepressant. 

Frankincense

I’ll admit Frankincense isn’t my favorite scent, but it has been used by many meditators who love it so I’ll add it to my list. Frankincense has a very strong scent that is known for its calming effect. If you feel distracted or a little closed off Frankincense might be the oil you need. Frankincense might help you feel grounded and calm without feeling sleepy. 

Lavender 

Lavender is probably one of the more well known oils. This floral oil is known for promoting relaxation and relieving anxiety. Lavender is a great oil to use if you are meditating before you go to sleep. The scent will help relieve stress and calm your mind. Lavender along with meditation before bedtime will give you a peaceful night of sleep. 

Ylang Ylang

Ylang ylang has a very floral smell with a sweet fruitiness. This oil is known to help relieve stress and depression. If you find yourself feeling sad or frustrated this might be the oil for you to use. It can help release those feelings of anger or tension and allow you to have a more peaceful meditation.

  1. My favorite essential oils are lavender and rosemary! They relax me when I’m stressed, so I agree that lavender would be great for meditation. I have yet to smell ylang ylang yet, but can’t wait to smell it.
