The Air Fryer and the Instant Pot seem to be the most popular small kitchen appliances right now. They both are advertised as time saving devices that are great for cooking healthier foods. As a busy mom I decided to give both appliances a try. There is one appliance that hands down wins for me.

First let me cover the time saving portion of this discussion. Is the Instant Pot really instant? And does the Air Fryer cook faster than the oven?

The Instant Pot isn’t exactly instant. There are some meals that it is just faster to cook on a stove top. Some of these things include spaghetti, casseroles and desserts. For me the Instant Pot has been worth the purchase for the Pinto Beans. Instead of spending hours soaking the beans and then cooking the beans all day, I can now cook some amazing pinto beans in around an hour.

Another thing the Instant Pot is good for is cooking amazing tender meat from frozen to done in under an hour. I have made some amazing pork chops and chicken in my Instant Pot.

What about the Air Fryer? How much time does it save? Let’s take baked potatoes as an example. In general it takes me between 45 minutes to an hour to cook baked potatoes in my convection oven. I can put 4 potatoes in my Air Fryer for 20-25 minutes and have them ready to eat.

For me the biggest time saving appliance and the one I use the most is the Air Fryer. Here are the places where the Air Fryer wins.

  1. Super easy to use. Even my kids can safely use it.
  2. Super fast for quick and easy lunches.
  3. A healthy alternative to pan frying in grease.
  4. Energy saving.

Which appliance do you prefer? And do you have any favorite recipes for the Air Fryer or Instant Pot?
