I just had a phenomenal opportunity to go through a 9 day yoga teacher training with some amazing spiritual people. I spent 9 days in Greensboro, NC getting in depth lessons on asanas, anatomy and physiology and spiritual development. This yoga teacher training was intense to say the least. I’m happy to announce that I survived and am now a RYT200 certified yoga teacher.
This training was a truly life changing experience for me. I went into the training expecting to learn how to teach some asanas and the benefits and precautions of the asanas. I came out of the training with so much more. I came out of the training feeling more deeply rooted in my spirituality. And I came out of the training with a family of 16 amazing brothers and sisters who I consider my family.
This group of 16 people lived together in a 3 bedroom basement rancher style house for 9 whole days. We started early in the morning at 5am and went until 9pm (some nights later). We cooked together, learned together, cleaned together, fasted together and grew together. Can you believe that in those 9 days of intense training we all got along perfectly? There was such a beautiful synergy among this group of people.
What did I learn?
I came away from my training with a deeper understanding of the lifestyle changes needed to deepen your meditation and yoga practice. I learned how to be a stronger leader, speaker and singer. My incredibly shy self even broke out of my comfort zone and lead our group in an acapella style kirtan. I have a strong anxiety around singing solo in front of a group of people. Leading our group through kirtan was a very big deal for me.
I also learned how to lead our group safely through asanas including using modifications and props as needed. As we lead a group of elderly people through yoga, I learned that it’s never too late to start a yoga practice. If you can breath, you can practice some form of yoga.
What is next for my journey?
Now that I am back home I plan to deepen my own yoga practice. I will continue to practice yoga and meditation daily. I plan to help guide my family through their yoga practice. We have an established meditation group that meets weekly. I will be incorporating yoga classes into these meetings.
I will also be looking for local yogi mentors. I want to start by assisting in some classes. After I am comfortable with assisting in studio classes I will get on a substitute list to start teaching my own classes.
I still have so much to learn. Finishing my yoga teacher training is just the beginning of my journey. Luckily there are lots of opportunities out there for teaching and continuing education. I just need to stay on top of my game, practice daily, learn daily and love deeply. Most importantly I just need to surrender to the universe and let life flow.
Congrats on your yoga teacher training. I hope you keep moving forward with this. Such a great thing for yourself and also to share with the world
I want to become yoga certified, that would be my biggest goal! Right now, I am focusing on my own daily yoga and then we’ll see what happens!
Congrats on the journey! Like most things i life, the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know.
I have started doing yoga as well (I’m a chubby dude in my 40’s) and it has done wonders for my back!
I’m so happy to hear yoga is helping with your back. The more you practice the better you will feel.
I had no idea there were such short courses. It really must have been an intense 9 days! Glad you learnt so much. I want to get into yoga but I’m not sure how to start as I’m very, very inflexible.
It was a very intense 9 days. We were going from 5am until 9pm everyday. Plus we were required to attend 2 retreats prior to the training.
Don’t let lack of flexibility discourage you. There are many, many modifications you can do. And props do wonders to help when you are just getting started. Hope you give yoga a try. : )
Congratulations! This is no small feat. I love the idea of incorporating your yoga with your family. I’ve done it with my toddler a few times and she absolutely loves it.
That is so sweet! Getting the kids started at a young age is great!
Your determination is admirable, as well as your flexibility!
I wish you luck as your pursue your new adventures with the training course behind you. I think assisting is a great way to start down the path you desire.

Congratulations on your yoga training session. It must be an awesome. I’ve always wanted to learn more about yoga, esppecially when it comes to the meditation part.
I love practicing yoga, but it’s been a while since it’s been part of my routine. This has inspired me to start again 🙂
Congratulations on finishing that program. Sounds like it was very fruitful. How wonderful that you’re able to practice yoga and meditation daily and also get your family involved. Very inspiring! Good luck with your future practice and learning!

Congrats on achieving that goal! It’s so important to treat our muscles properly, and this is just one of those ways.
Great post. Congratulations, i hope you don’t stop keep moving. The more you practise the more flexible you will become.

I only tried yoga once, upon the prodding of my friend who practices it. Sadly, my body won’t cooperate. I would want to learn the technique of meditation though. That would be nice to just be able to relax and release all the stress.
This is such a great thing! Well done on passing your training. I have never tried yoga but always wanted to (although I really don’t think I’m flexible enough) Maybe a resolution for myself this year!
Wow! Yoga is a great way to keep yourself and healthy. Great start to healthy life. Teaching Yoga should be fun…. congrats on starting this journey.
Wow a major congrats on this great milestone. My friend recently finished her training and she has learned so much. And is still so excited about what’s to come.
Congrats on your yoga teacher training! This is something I have wanted to do, but I was getting really confused on the certification process. Yoga and meditation have transformed my life, and I try to practice them daily when possible.
I always want to start with yoga and meditation because these both are awesome practices to improve life in a natural and in a positive direction.
I must say you have an inspiring story about how you learned and continue practicing yoga and I think we should spread more awareness about yoga benefits in our daily life.
Incredible. Welcome to the yoga club. Learning yoga is a rewarding experience that you can try and maybe do it on your own.
Yoga is a great thing anyone can experience. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful journey with us.
