The Secret To Getting Through Your To Do List Every Day

The Secret To Getting Through Your To Do List Every Day

If you find yourself with a neverending to do list that you need to figure out how to tackle once and for all, you’ve come to the right place. Not only do you need to make sure that you’re in the right frame of mind to tackle your to do list, you also need to make sure that you are creating your to-do list in such a way that it isn’t holding you back. Here, we’ll give you a few secrets to getting through your to do list every day. Take a look:

Identify Your Top Three Priorities

Start by identifying your top 3 priorities. If you have 10 things on your to-do list, chances are you’re not going to get everything done that day, no matter how optimistic you are. Picking the 3 most important things forces you to prioritize and stops you from beating yourself up when you don’t get everything done. Anything you get done on top of those 3 things is a bonus.

Have A To Don’t List

A to don’t list can help to remind you what you shouldn’t be doing if you want to get your whole list crossed off. For example, no looking at your phone in the morning, no answering emails until the afternoon, etc. When you add things like this to your to don’t list, you’ll often find it so much easier to get things done.

Stop Trying To MultiTask

Don’t do two things at once and kid yourself into thinking you’re getting it done faster. The fact is, you’re probably not. Multitasking slows even the most productive person down, and it can be far easier to make mistakes. Just focus on one task at a time.

Purge Your List

Take a look at your list most days and consider whether there’s anything you can cross off or delete. You may have useless things on your list that have been on there for a while now. If you’ve still not done them, you’re either not going to do it or it doesn’t really need to be on your list yet. Get rid of things that you’re not doing right away to avoid overwhelming yourself.

Be Realistic

Try to be honest with yourself about what you can actually get done in the day. You’re not a superhero, so you shouldn’t chastise yourself for not being able to get absolutely everything done that you’ve written down.

Get Yourself Into The Right Headspace

Getting into the right headspace can be different for everyone, so pay attention to what makes you feel most alert. For example, you could take a quick, cold shower in the morning to wake up, followed by 15 minutes of yoga or stretching. Pay attention to whether you have things like iron deficiency symptoms as they could slow you down and need to be addressed. See your doctor if you think that there may be something else at play for your lack of energy.

Have A ‘Done’ List

Seeing everything you have done ticked off can be a huge motivator, so have a ‘done’ list and tick everything off proudly!

These are such brilliant tips. I sometimes overload myself with too much, but having a list and prioritizing helps me avoid overwhelm.
