Families love to visit the beaches of Florida! You can’t beat the warmth, sunshine, and the ocean’s breeze. If your family includes a dog or two, you probably don’t want to leave them out of the fun. Not to worry, Florida offers some beautiful dog-friendly beaches.
Fort Myers Beach
As one of the most popular vacation destinations in Florida, it’s fantastic that they have dog-friendly beaches. Great news, there’s more than one excellent beach where you can bring your pup.
Fort Myers Beach, the main beach, offers soft white sand and loads of restaurants, stores, and dog-friendly hotels. Your dog must remain on a leash on the beach, so it’s perfect for lounging, shopping, or jogging without worrying your pup will run away to chase a seagull.
Another option is the aptly named Dog Beach, located southeast of Fort Myers. It’s free, and you can allow your dog to run off-leash. Dog Beach has an area to rinse off feet and paws and a portable bathroom. It’s important to note that there are limited amenities here, so prepare accordingly.
Fort De Soto Park (Paw Playground)
If you’re looking for an incredible, top-rated beach to spend your vacation, then head to Fort De Soto Park southwest of St. Petersburg. Let your dog run around off-leash all day as you and the family soak up the sunshine. A word of advice: this beach is extremely popular, so get there early to beat the crowds.
You’ll find hoses and water fountains available to keep your pup cool if they aren’t interested in setting paw in the ocean. There’s also a two-and-a-half-acre fenced-in dog park adjacent to the beach.
Smyrna Dunes Park
An hour away from Orlando’s International Airport, Smyrna Dunes Park is a beautiful pet-friendly beach. You’ll encounter soft sand, friendly people, and a lovely surf. Your dog can even tag along with you to the boardwalk in the morning. Pups must remain on their leash at this park.
Bonita Beach Dog Park
Are you looking for a dog park where your energetic pup can run off-leash? Make your way to Bonita Beach Dog Park for some playtime. This secluded beach is far enough away from the main road, so you don’t have to worry about your pup wandering into danger.
Don’t miss visiting this dog-friendly beach in Florida. The shallow and clear water is perfect for the pups who enjoy splashing and playing in the surf. You’ll find plenty of waste bags and a rinse station.
After you’ve returned from vacation, make an appointment with your favorite professional dog groomer. Your pup will need help removing all the sand their fur has brought back from the beach.
