The Benefits of Kirtan
The Benefits of Kirtan

Kirtan is a beautiful mix of music, mantras and chanting that has tons of wonderful benefits. The benefits are both physical and spiritual in nature. Anyone who loves music could easily get into kirtan.

As a lover of music myself I was introduced to kirtan 2 years ago and fell in love. I noticed a difference in my mood after singing kirtan. I also noticed that I had my energy after singing kirtan. These are just a couple of the benefits that I had. In this blog post I’ll go more in depth to give you some examples of kirtan and their benefits.

Improve Mood

When you are chanting you tend to leave your troubles and worries behind. You get lost in the music and even the dancing. There have been times when I have had a meeting that I have been dreading. I sing kirtan on my way to the meeting and get there in a fantastic mood and forget that I was even dreading the meeting.

It’s Meditation for Those Who Can’t Sit Still

If you have a hard time sitting still for meditation kirtan is a fantastic alternative. Kirtan is considered musical meditation. Some yogis even sing kirtan before meditation to prepare their minds and bodies for meditation. Kirtan helps calm your mind so that you can focus on meditation. And the dancing movement with kirtan helps prepare your body for seated meditation.

Improved Mental Clarity

Having writer’s block? Stuck on a project that you can’t seem to find a solution to? Sing a little kirtan. Kirtan has been known to bring people mental clarity so that they can more easily tackle what life throws their way.

Examples of Kirtan:

Krishna Das

Snatam Kaur

Deva Premal
