Summer Skin Care Tips for Dry Skin

Summer Skin Care Tips for Dry Skin

Summer is the perfect time of year to get outside and enjoy the nature near your home. The fresh air and sunshine can leave you feeling renewed after a morning yoga practice, and mediation out in the elements can also supply you with energy for the day. This is why people interested in wellness relish this time outdoors and the extra benefits it can bring to their routines. However, as great as time out in nature is for the soul, you need to still be aware of the toll it can take on your skin. Extra time in sun during warmer months can negatively affect people with dry skin in particular. Embrace these summer skin care tips for dry skin to maintain a healthy complexion.

Lower the Heat of Your Showers

The increased amount of sweat your body produces during the summer often means you need to shower more to keep yourself clean. However, this can rob your skin of the moisture it needs to stay strong—especially if you like to take hot showers. The steam might remove excess oils and dirt from your pores, but it also evaporates the moisture from deep within your skin. This is why you should either limit the number of times you shower during the day or lower the water temperature when you do shower.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Even if you do adjust the temperature of your showers, you should still take the time to moisturize your skin. To reiterate, moisture is what keeps your skin cells healthy, flexible, and durable enough to bounce back from damage—which is particularly important during the summer. If your skin is already dry, you could sustain additional damage from the sun should you fail to make moisturizing a part of your regular routine. Be sure to choose products with high amounts of hyaluronic acid to better attract and retain moisture in your skin.

Remember to Exfoliate

Another important summer skin care tip for dry skin is to regularly exfoliate. The faster your skin dries out, the more dead skin cells you’ll have left on your face at the end of each day. This can prevent your skin from breathing properly and expelling harmful toxins, increasing your likelihood of a breakout and making your skin appear duller. Exfoliating two to three times a week removes the dead cells blocking your pores and leaves your face bright, glowing, and—most importantly—clean.

Use Protection from the Sun

Make sure you also wear sun protection whenever you leave the house—namely, sunscreen. No matter how little time you spent outside or how direct the sunlight is that day, harmful UV rays can still penetrate your skin and cause irreversible damage. Because of this, you should apply an SPF 30 sunscreen product before each outing and reapply every couple of hours.

  1. I love that you talked about how summertime can be the perfect time to enjoy outside activities. I love going to the beach but my only problem is my sensitive skin that gets too dry afterward. Maybe it’s time to invest in good skincare products like an unscented organic lotion that I could apply every night.
