Prepare For Camping With Your Kids The Right Way

Prepare For Camping With Your Kids The Right Way

Are you planning on taking the kids camping? This could be a great option and something different from the traditional family vacation. Here are some of the things to keep in mind when you are preparing for this particular trip.

Dodge The Tech

If you want a full camping experience, you need to make sure that you are avoiding taking the tech with you. It can be tempting letting your kids take their phone and everything else that they might be able to stuff in their backpack. However, if you allow for this to happen, there’s a good chance that this is where their attention is going to be. That’s probably not what you want. Instead, you need to make sure that you are restricting the level of tech. There should be one phone for emergencies but you don’t all need to have one. You definitely don’t want things like game devices smuggled in for your camping trip.

Instead, try to add different things that you can enjoy as a family, even if the weather restricts your camping adventures. There are countless options here. For instance, you might want to think about board games. Board games are great fun and perfect for rainy days when you’re camping.

Plan Ahead

You definitely need to make sure that you plan ahead if you’re thinking about preparing for a camping trip. There are a few reasons for this. First, it’s great to know how long it’s going to take you to get there. In some cases, you may not want to drive in the dark on roads that you don’t know.

This can be avoided if you know how long your trip is going to take. You also need to make sure that you don’t get stuck with one of the worst pitches. Yes, there are good and bad pitches that are worth thinking about when camping. So, what are examples of bad pitches? Well, you definitely don’t want to be stuck too close to the water. It’s possible that you might end up with issues here if the river floods. As well as this, it’s likely where there’s going to a greater level of insects and animals. This can definitely disturb your plans for a relaxing experience camping. You don’t want to wake up in the morning with bites all over your body

Check The Tent

Regardless of where you have bought your tent brand new or you have pulled it out of a garage and haven’t used it in a few years, it’s important to guarantee that it doesn’t have any issues. The only way to do this is to make sure that you check it before you go camping. One of the easiest ways to do this is to make sure that you are having a day of camping in your garden before you hit the road. As well as being a fun experience to share with the family, garden camping is a great way to check for leaks and any other issues with your tent. It will also make sure that you know how to set up and take down your tent without any issues at all.

Finding out there’s an issue with the tent is always going to be better if you are only a couple meters away from the shelter.

Get The Right Food

If you are going camping in the middle of nowhere, then it’s important to think about the food and supplies that you will need. We don’t want to make this sound too much like survival exercises but it’s great if you don’t have to spend your camping trip running over to Wallmart each day or even every couple of days. There are lots of foods that are easy to prepare on an open fire and that you should have no issues with it. Of course, you will need to know how to set up your fire. Starting a fire with magnesium is one of the best options if you have the right kit.

Think About Activities

Finally, you should definitely be thinking about the type of activities that you can enjoy and experience while camping. There is a range of activities that you can consider here. For instance, you might want to think about booking a pitch with a lake nearby. This is almost always going to open up the option of watersports which is going to be great fun for the whole family. You might also want to find a place where you can try mountain biking as well as other exercising adventures.

  1. It is so important to be prepared when going camping.. and even that much more when you travel with kids. No joke — we have literally forgotten our tent twice now! So, there’s that 🙂

  2. My daughter was looking forward to their Girl Scouts camping trip but it’s been canceled… we can definitely use these next summer.

  3. One of the reasons why we go out camping is to take a break from the modern world and reconnect with nature. I agree with you about dodging the tech. We have a phone for emergencies only and no social media or gaming. So far we’re not having problems with the kids. We just make sure we have a lot of activities lined up.

  4. o i love camping as a kid…… i still have all those keloidal remnants from past injuries but it’s all worth it. We should let our kids be free on camping but still on the look out because kids can go crazy…..yes, we should do it the right way….there should be plans like this…..

  5. Thank you for the tips!😊 I especially like the one about trying it out in your garden before leaving for your campsite. This is the perfect time to camp in your back yard or in your home.

  8. We are planning a camping trip this year, so this comes in super helpful. Great idea to check the tent – I wouldn’t have thought of that! It’s been in the attic so long, there could definitely be something wrong with it. I’d rather know before we get there!

  17. Thanks for reminding me that I need to check the tent we’ll be using for any kind of issue before our camping trip. Due to the pandemic, we can’t bring our kids to enclosed spaces and I think that giving them a wildlife experience is much better. Aside from preparing our camping stuff and clothes, I’ll also try to buy reversible beanies with a mossy oak camo design that we can all wear as a family.

  18. My last camping trip was thrilling as was a rainy day. However, our kids enjoyed it very much!

    Thanks for the wonderful post!
