How To Keep Your Kids Warm on Winter Mornings

Winter weather is tough on everybody, especially kids. If your kids are complaining about being chilly in the mornings, it might be time to change up their morning routine. Here are a few ideas to help keep your kids warm on winter mornings.

Make a Good Breakfast

Our bodies need food for fuel, so feeding your kiddos a nutritious breakfast first thing in the morning can really help keep them warm throughout the day. Tossing them a granola bar or pack of pop tarts on the way out the door is convenient but won’t keep them full and warm all morning.

Instead, feed them breakfast with plenty of protein and carbohydrates. If you have extra time, eggs, bacon, or pancakes are great options. But if you’re like most moms, you simply don’t have time for that. Not to worry, there are plenty of other less time-consuming options.

Yogurt with granola, fruit, and oatmeal are all great options. Oatmeal is especially nice on a chilly morning, as it’s a hot meal! If you’re into meal prepping, you can also make a big batch of pancakes with protein powder over the weekend, then reheat them throughout the week for an easy, nutritious breakfast.

Dress Them in Layers

Layers are essential, as your child will be inside most of the day. Sweaters or long-sleeved shirts are great for underneath their heavy coat. Pile on the winter accessories—gloves, hats, and scarves.

If they’re still chilly, adding a warm fleece underneath their winter coat can help trap some extra heat.

Make Their Ride Toasty

If you don’t currently give your kids a ride to school and are able to, maybe give them that option instead of having them walk. If they ride the bus, they’ll appreciate a ride to the bus stop.

Warming up your car in advance and giving your kid a ride ensures that they’ll be in a warm environment for as long as possible. They’ll stay warm for longer when waiting at the bus stop or in the schoolyard if they had been kept warm previously.
