I haven’t written a blog post about my half marathon training lately. Quite frankly it’s because I’ve been WAY off on my schedule. We had to straight weeks of snow and ice and below freezing temperatures. I can deal with running in cold temperatures and I can deal with running in the snow. But running on ice is NOT my idea of a good time. While it was icy out I took some time off from my running and focused on strength training inside. I didn’t want to risk getting an injury by trying to run on ice.
For my strength and stretch training I’ve been doing a combination of 21 Day Fix Extreme and PiYo. 21 Day Fix Extreme is amazing for training your lower body and core. It has been kicking my butt in such a good way. And I recently got certified to teach PiYo so I’ve been practicing my choreography to get some good stretch and strength workouts.
Now that it is finally warming back up I’m getting back into the swing of my running game. This past weekend I ran my very first 8 mile run. It took me about an hour and a half to run it, but I finished it. It was not only physically challenging, but mentally challenging. When my run tracker told me I had only run 4 miles I almost wanted to cry at the thought of running 4 more. But I did it and I felt amazing afterwards. There is nothing like that high you feel after a good run.
I’m now 4 weeks away from my half marathon and I’m getting more and more excited about it. Being able to finish these long runs every weekend is giving me to confidence that I will be able to finish this race!
You can do it!! It sounds like you’re doing great already!!
Congrats on getting your training in. The snow is melting so I have no excuse to not workout outside.
