The Winter Perfect Cocktail: Winter Blossom

The Winter Blossom Cocktail

The Winter Blossom Cocktail was created by the bar team in Mott32, a famous restaurant in Hong Kong. The bar team designed this drink so that their diners would have the most delicious way of getting through the cold winter months that are ahead. However, there is no reason why you cannot make this drink to enjoy at home. 

So, what can you expect from the Winter Blossom? This drink is a unique mix of Wenjun, Benedictine, Elderflower, Orange Blossom Honey, Earl Grey Tea, Grapefruit and Lemon that is topped with a Touch of Cinnamon. It is served warm, so when we say it will keep you warm, we don’t mean just because of the alcohol content. You can have a lot of fun making this cocktail. We recommend using Local Hive Honey to make your own Orange Blossom Honey. Delicious! 

The delicate fruit flavours work really well with the warm and comforting nature of the drink. However, it is the Wenjun that is the real standout ingredient. This is a very special Chinese white spirit. Not only does it taste delicious, but also it is an important part of Chinese culture.

Wenjun, known as Bai Jiu, has a history of more than three millennia in China. It is produced in the Wenjun distillery, which is located in Qionglai, Sichuan. This is an area that has been producing white spirits for over 450 years and many would agree that Wenjun is one of the best spirits to come out of the area. 

Five grains are brewed and distilled to create Wenjun. This includes corn, wheat, rice, glutinous rice and broomcorn. But what does it taste like? It has a very distinct taste. You will experience a sharp combination of plum, musk, sweet cherry and spice. There is no other drink like it. However, if we were to categorise Wenjun, we would say that it falls somewhere in between Amaretto and Kirsch. 

Wenjun really takes the Winter Blossom cocktail to a new level. However, if this cocktail does not appeal to you, there are plenty of other amazing cocktail recipes online. 

Another cocktail with a flowery name is the Hanami, which is named after the flower festivals that take place every autumn in Japan. The cocktail features a blend of Buffalo Trace Whiskey, Tanqueray Gin, Umeshu, Yuzu, Shisho, Ginger Beer and Chrysanthemum.
