Sun, family time, Blue Angels, aerial stunts and jets were all involved at the Smoky Mountain Air Show this past weekend. Even with the warnings of heavy traffic and a large crowd we decided we didn’t want to miss this event. We packed up the kids, our chairs and our cameras and headed to the airport Saturday afternoon.
We decided to take a chance and wait until around 11 to head to the airport. I’m really glad we waited because from what I hear there were people who left super early only to sit in traffic for up to 3 hours only to have to go home because their kids were done and their patience was gone. I really feel for those people because they missed quite an exciting show. We really lucked out by leaving later. We only sat in traffic for maybe 20 minutes, parked with no issues whatsoever and got a shuttle right up to the entrance of the air show.
There were tons of aircraft out on display. Many of these aircraft carriers allowed you to hop right aboard! The kids had a blast exploring the jets. One of their favorites was hopping aboard the Blackhawk on display. We even spotted some of the Blue Angel pilots walking around at one point.
The highlight of the air show was, of course, all of the aerial performers. Some of the acts included Aeroshell Acrobatic Team, Jacquie Warda, Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing, Younkin Airshows and an F-16 flyover just to name a few. And of course, no major air show is complete without the amazing US Navy’s Blue Angels!! All of the performers put on an amazing show! My mind was absolutely blown several times throughout the acts. The kids were blown away by the power and speed of the aircrafts flying around. And seeing the Blue Angels up close flying right overhead was breathtaking.
While there is nothing that quite compares to actually being at the Smoky Mountain Air Show we captured some of our experiences in 360 video so you can watch the experiences in virtual reality. Here is one of the videos got of the Blue Angels. If you are reading this from your phone be sure to open this video up in your YouTube app. This will allow you to actually watch the video in 360 mode and if you have a virtual reality headset you can see it in virtual reality. This looks like so much fun! I used to love airshows when I was a kid!
Wow!
The Blue Angels would be really fun to watch!
Very cool 360 video! I don’t own a 360 camera (I hope to at some point), but I have taken some 360 photos using Google Street View app. You take a series of still photos all around you and the app stitches them together. Pretty cool way to improvise!
Thanks,
