Pickett State Park is the perfect campground for families and stargazers. The state park has an abundance of hiking trails, camping options and recreational activities. You are sure to never be bored while camping at Pickett.

Camping Options

There are tent camping options that range from backcountry camping to tent camping with electric and water. If you have an RV, there are campsites with electric and water hookups and a dump station on site. Don’t want to camp? Rent one of the cabins. All of the cabins with the exception of the rustic cabins have central heat and air.

If you are going with a big group check out the group camping area. The group camp accommodates up to 144 people. You will have access to the massive dining hall and fully equipped kitchen. There is also a baseball field that is perfect for stargazing.

Recreational Activities

You can visit the archeology museum to find out about the Native American history that surrounds this park. You can also request a tour of local archeological sites from the ETSU students who work at the museum.

Stargaze at one of the many fields available at Pickett State Park. This park is listed as a certified dark sky viewing location by the International Dark-Sky Association. With no light pollution you will be able to see a sky full of stars.

There are canoes, kayaks, boats and paddle boards available to rent. Take a ride around the lake to see the dam and natural arches and caves along the way. When you are done with your boat ride, you can take a dip in the swimming area or fish in the lake that is stocked with trout throughout the summer.

Hiking

There are at least 14 hiking trails in or around Pickett State Park. These trails range from easy to moderate and less than a mile to 8 miles. You can find waterfalls, natural arches, caves, sandstone bluffs and beautiful overlooks on these trails. Most of the trails are suitable for families with small children with lots to see and explore.
